Nadene, who is your first wearer? I noticed her talking to Mia at the Neckware 8 opening and thought what a perfect match. She appeared as vibrant as your brooch.

In my work I am fascinated with how structure and fabric can define open and private spaces. Using solid hardware allows for expanse whilst still embody the decorative.
Thank you for the “honour” of wearing your ‘tropical outburst’ for a month…. & the 1st month no less! Question: – how ‘big & out there’ does an extraordinary/ indeed extra-eye-catching art creative piece have to be before someone makes comment?
Answer: – I obviously have no idea.
True story – We received our 1st brooches @ a delightful interactive function @ Masterworks (which I’ll refer to as the “Mothership”) on Wednesday 29th June ’11. I was running late due to traffic & made it in the door with just enough time to converse with only one person – one of the brooch –creators. To my delight, Nadene was to be the ‘author’ of my 1st brooch –indeed an ‘easy’ relationship had already ‘hatched’. I departed, not only delighted to be one of the travelling ‘gallery’ models, but absolutely thrilled to be the wearer of this brooch. I went straight round to a very dear friend & an equally mad art lover & gatherer of electric artwork. She knew of my inclusion in this project & was awaiting the surprise. “So Linda,” she said, “will you need courage to wear this?…” “HELL NO,” was my response, & it’s initiation into the public arena had been christened.
Now to school it went on the Friday that week. I especially selected what to wear to support yet not ‘hide’ the artwork. – I’d tee’d all my Junior College Art Students up about this project I’d been asked to be part of – but none of the teachers…. & Friday is the day everyone turns up in the staffroom from both the Primary & Senior Colleges as well. – So a huge audience. The first teacher I walked past at 7:45am was our Drama teacher – I thought as I walked toward her…. “this will be ‘good’ for the journal write-up – & there was no comment, not a nothing!!! How could you miss it, I thought!!! I passed 2 more Senior College teachers before I hit my artroom, feeling disappointed. The students gather – wonderful conversations transpire – as indeed they did each time I wore it to school these past 4 weeks – but determined to get ‘adult’ reactions before the teaching day starts, I go to the staffroom for a cuppa. I spoke to 3 teachers & not a one said anything… they didn’t even look at my ‘chest’. What a bitter blow – What am I going to write in this journal? At morning tea I finally get up & tell my fellow colleagues what a disappointment they all are… where-upon which there’s was hooting of laughter & a chorus of voices saying…. Why Linda – you look extraordinarily different every day & today was no different!!! LOL. Too many superb conversations about this delicious artwork to include in this wee notebook. But thank you Nadene!
