What a treat to have had the pleasure of wearing this ‘fun’ Ross Malcolm creation this past 4 weeks. It seemed to suit lots of what I wore and just any occasion…. I loved the way this gorgeous ‘thingy’ rearranged itself, each time I wore it. It’s self-movement appealed to me & so it did to others – the art students I teach thought it the ‘best-yet’ and were intrigued to learn that it was simply the plastic from shampoo bottles – originally. This brought about intriguing conversations – even ideas for equally creative uses for ‘defunct’ cosmetic plastics!
Many asked :
- Where did you get this?
- How does it work?
- What a neat idea!
- It reminds me of children’s birthday party food.
A pleasure to wear. Thank you Ross.

artist statement:
I call them” colourpops”, those occasional moments when certain memories just seem to appear, unexpected in my minds eye…
Bright neighbourhood flower gardens, while coursing my way home from school in early childhood…carpets of bluebells in the woods
along a river path in Lanarkshire one spring…I have lots of them. vibrant snippets of time past, that punctuate my journey…

I popped this brooch onto my black leather jacket and it stayed there for the month to and fro with me as I went about my business. I didn’t feel it needed to be worn “specially”; it sat very comfortably on my everyday jacket and in my everyday life – I had a lot of fun wearing it in its different configurations. Fun to wear – it drew attention to itself and got lots of comments from people in all walks of life – supermarket to Art Fair.
People liked its playfulness and most immediately linked it with flowers as a ‘posy’. The fact it’s plastic didn’t put anyone off – the colours are very wearable. The construction is robust with really nice attention to detail. I thoroughly enjoyed wearing this brooch for a month –
Thank you

I felt very privileged to be an honorary wearer this month, thank you.
-I took Colourpops to my dad’s 70th birthday party in Morrinsville. They dont get many interesting jewelleries down there due to the plethora of pandora bracelets and glass bead bling, so Colourpops created a flurry of ‘Oh! this is nice, what is it?’ questions. Most people were very impressed that Ross used to drive bulldozers and now makes such beautiful brooches.
-I also took Colourpops to meet Manon van Kouswijk at Frans house where he was greatly admired by a bunch of old school jewellers who were very impressed with Ross’s new direction.
-At home on the book shelf, Colourpops was picked up by our friend Mary who instantly appreciated its wonderfulness, which spurred a bout of brooch wearing by all around the dinner table.
A great brooch – easy to wear and so easy to fall in love with.
